The history of the Mayan culture is one that covers a lengthy time. This area included the present-day nations of Belize, El Salvador, western Honduras and Guatemala. Further north the Mayan culture inhabited the Yucatan Peninsula states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan, and Campeche. From the present-day Mexican southern the Maya area extended throughout Chiapas and Tabasco.
